In this 8 minute segment (download iPod compatible, 47MB), Linda explains how Pure Visibility uses consulting, training, and social media to help client achieve better Internet visibility.

Pure Visibility targets training classes at smaller companies. Clients can come in and takes these classes and then call with questions. Over time, Pure Visibility hopes that training can lead to more extensive relationships.

Social media (blogs and wikis) can serve both small and large clients by helping them manage word of mouth. One area where blogs and wikis can help is in mitigating negative word of mouth. Negative word of mouth from one dissatisfied customer may cost a business between 32 to 36 other customers. Pure Visibility has been in social media since January, 2006, and recently brought on Ed Vielmetti to help grow that practice.

I think that your company Pure Visibility is an excellent idea. There are many people who are trying to become entrepreneurs and open up their own small business, yet they do not necessarily have the skills and knowledge to market their business. As a new small business, they do not have the financial backing to spend an exceptional amount on marketing, so by offering one-on-one training so that they can market themselves is very helpful to them. I think by giving small businesses the knowledge and know-how to correctly market them and choosing their words wisely is necessary to successfully market their business. Also, by using internet networking sites like Myspace and Facebook is a very inexpensive, yet personal way to promote their business. I think that some people like to be able to talk to the owner or individual responsible for a company directly, but with the retail world being so commercial it is almost impossible. That’s why having a page on Myspace or Facebook is a beneficial idea to the small business so that customers can comment about their positive experiences. Like the summary said negative word of mouth from one dissatisfied customer may cost a business between 32 and 36 other customers. People always remember the negative comments, so if there are multiple postings about positive experiences it will give other potential customers a better feeling about purchasing from the business. Also, even by posting negative comments, gives the business a chance to respond to the incidence to clear up any misunderstandings that may have occurred and a chance to fix the problem. From my opinion, I would rather work with a company who may make a mistake but will admit to it and correct the problem then to work with a company who avoids all negative contacts.

This interview was a great introduction into specialized marketing. Pure Visibility is a company that helps other businesses advertise and become known. They also offer a training programs in which small businesses who can not afford to pay Pure Visibility for advertising assistance are able to come in and learn how to create their own advertising. One interesting avenue of advertising that was discussed is that of social media. It involves getting people to talk about your business over a medium such as the internet. This can be done by using myspace or creating a website for your business that has a discussion board that allows customers to leave feedback about their individual experience. So far Pure Visibility has had a few clients get involved with social media. Linda Girard was certainly excited to report this fact. I can see social media becoming an important medium for advertising in the future as more and more people use the internet to research even the smallest of purchase due to its ease of use and abundance of information. Almost any small business can be found through a simple search using google. With most listings is a few reviews of those businesses. I have used this information often in my purchasing habits. Although some reviews may be tilted towards the negative side; as people are twenty times as likely to discuss a negative experience as they are to discuss a positive one. I enjoyed this business interview series and have come away with a better understanding of different aspects of advertising that goes into a small business.
