In this 5 minute segment (download iPod compatible, 25MB), Bruce McCully, CEO of Dynamic Edge, states his desire to grow staff by 43% and double the number of customers in the next year. He expects that two modifications to Dynamic Edge's business model will help enable that growth. First, in the past year, Dynamic Edge has moved from having all employees report to a central location to having them start from home and going directly to clients. This speeds responsiveness to client needs and cuts down on required office overhead.

Second, planned growth from 35 to 50 employees will mean that Dynamic Edge's current flat reporting structure with most management decisions coming to Bruce will no longer suffice. Bruce is going to add teams with team leaders who will report to him. We expect to catch up with Bruce sometime in the future to hear what comes next on his path to growth.

I think that Bruce McCully plan of having all employees not report to a central location and have them start from home and going directly to clients is a great idea to help grow his staff by 43% and double the number of customers in the next year. As Bruce said in the interview it cuts down on required office overhead and I also feel that it makes the employees more satisfied to be able to work without having to report to a central location and go directly to the clients. There are many other advantages that employees will have by not having to report to a central location. Employees will save on gas, they wont have anyone looking over their shoulder, they will have a quicker responsiveness to a client needs and it gives you a more flexible schedule. I also think that adding teams and having a team leader for each team is a great idea. With having a team leader for each team I think this eliminates having about 30 to 40 people reporting to Bruce and only having 5 or 6 report to him which will make things easier in my opinion. This was a great interview and I wish you success in reaching your goal. DeAndre Turner Eastern Michigan University

Bruce offering the flexibility of his consultants working at home gives Dynamic Edge a competitive advantage in the workplace. The reason is because he relieves employees from the pressure and distractions of working side by side in a cubicle type environment. The cost savings achieved by reducing overhead, by way of eliminating the need for extra space, keeping sustained utility bills, and better employees attitude offered by the flexibility of working from home will help Bruce achieve his goal of a 43% increase in the next year. Bruce handling so many employees has become cumbersome and time consuming, therefore his plan to implement teams, is a good choice and one that many entrepreneurs are not comfortable with and often times fail because they are not willing to do this. Dynamic edge is able to keep constant and clear communication through use of the Internet using IM, and voice over IP, this eliminates the loss of 12% of productivity that average businesses lose in the course of a day. Breaking the current network of employees into teams of 5-7 people will allow Bruce to concentrate more on the central operations of the business, which will help achieve his growth goals for Dynamic Edge. Bruce will essentially be managing 6 people, which will allow Bruce to spend more time with each team leader. My only question about this is if you have a plan in case a team leader leaves the company, or becomes sick? Do they have assistants that are up to speed on the rest of the managing functions of the team and can step in, in a moments notice? Also does letting employees have so much freedom working from home ever worry you that they will split off with their entire team and become your competition? Adding 15 more employees I feel would help bring in more customers, so I think its great that those goals go together. Adding 15 more employees will also deffinatly help open more jobs in Michigan which is also a great thing! By not making employees report to a central locations help them focus more on customer needs and this will help satisfy customers. Satisfying customers is what is going to keep customers and help get more because customers will talk about good experiences with the company and recommend it to others. Brainstorming is a great way to bring in new ideas to make the company better. Having team leaders will help with the managemt aspect because it will take less pressure off of one person. Having team leaders and the committies will help bring in new ideas and help the company move forward in a positive direction. Being a student and starting a new business is such a huge thing!! To have business be successful at that young of an age is amazing, especially if it was just opened to see if it was possible to be successful. Staying close to the customer and having good internal communication is very important to keep clients and hold their trust. Brooke Young EMU
